The CTC students recieved a Self Defense class on Wednesday June 8th taught by Guy Blazing.  They were taught what to do in certain instances in which self defense would be needed. They were also given a chance at the end of the class to buy self defense equipment.  This class was great for the students to know and be aware of what to do in certain instances from burglary to rape and in any occasion in which self defense is needed!

Some of our students attended the Barristar Hair Show in the Twin Cities on Sunday, May 22nd.  They learned some new cutting techniques as well as experienced some platform artist demonstrations! Check out the link below for a sneak peek of what they were a part of!

Tracy Sternitzke, a student at the Cosmetology Training Center of Mankato, MN was awarded a $650 memorial scholarship from the family of Jeanie Biehn.  This was a memorial scholarship in honor of Jeanie Biehn.  Jeanie was a resident of Madison Lake, MN and attended cosmetology school in Mankato after she graduated high school.  She started her own salon after graduation from the cosmetology school called, Jeanie’s Beauty Shop in Madison Lake, MN. She operated her salon for nearly 40 years.  Jeanie’s famiy’s hope was that they could give one of the Cosmetology Training Center’s students a small part of Jeanie’s Beauty Shop to continue on through this memorial scholarship.      

Tracy Sternitzke is from Good Thunder, MN.  She started at the Cosmetology Training Center September 2010.  She will be graduating June of 2011.  In her scholarship essay Tracy stated, “Jeanie was blessed to be able to do what she loved for those many years while being a blessing to others also. Your scholarship is a generous act to honor a remarkable person.” Tracy also stated in her essay, “It is so motivating and inspiring when I can make a client feel special on the inside by helping them look better on the outside.  The simple act of styling a person’s hair, polishing their nails or simply shampooing them is reflected as they leave more confident, even radiant.” Tracy hopes to open her own salon upon graduation and give back and be a part of the community that she cares so much about. Tracy’s essay was chosen by the family of Jeanie Biehn and she willbe using the scholarship towards her tuition at the Cosmetology Training Center. 

Kaitlin Herbst, a student at CTC, was awarded the Great Clips $500.00 Scholarship on Thursday November 18^th.   The scholarship is given out twice a year to current cosmetology or barber students, high school students and those pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering. Recipients of the scholarship are applicants who can demonstrate a passion for the craft and dedication to developing their skills in cosmetology or barbering. 

To receive the scholarship Kaitlin was asked to write a one page essay describing why cosmetology interests her.  In the essay Kaitlin stated, “I have always loved to do hair and makeup. I like to help people and make them feel better about themselves.” Kaitlin’s great grandma was also a cosmetologist and she wrote in her essay that she thinks her interest in this field came from her.

A recent gradute of the Cosmetology Training Center in Mankato Minnesota put together this video of her education and experiences at CTC.

On August 4th, seven of our students were a part of the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp action.  The students gave Vikings fans a chance to show their spirit through fun hair.  Our seven students did free funky, fun, purple and gold hair for any fan that was a part of training camp that day. 

Two Cosmetology Training Center students, Julia Roberts and Sarah Barna, spent four long days providing makeup service for a promotional video shoot.

The video will be used for promoting the Minnesota State University, Mankato Aviation Program.

Through the four day shoot directed by Matt Wiechmann, Julia and Sarah worked with numerous techniques, colors, and styles.

The Cosmetology Training Center is very proud of her achievements and progress towards completing her degree.

Kids Against Hunger is a non-profitable organization whose mission is to provide fully nutrious food to impoverished children around the world. Instructors and students from CTC helped package food kits to send to those in need. It is important to the instructors at CTC, to emphasize to their students the many ways they can make a difference in the world around them.
